GET THE LOOK :: PRINTED PENCIL SKIRT

The collections of Spring 2012 have proven to be a celebration of femininity, and not a moment to soon! Menswear is fun 'n all, but the girly girl in me rejoiced at the floral prints and figure-flattering cuts of Prada and Dolce & Gabbana. It's Cristina from Fuji Files here with one key piece to get the lady-like look right off the catwalk: the printed pencil skirt.

Unfortunately the pencil skirt is most often found in its somber pinstriped form, sadly relegated to black and grey work uniforms. Not for long! As the signature silhouette of fashion royalty Carine Roitfeld, this slender skirt is popping up in modern patterns from florals and animal prints to stripes and lace - choosing a print is the hardest part!

Because the silhouette is so form-fitting, this style is best worn with a modest cut top like a boatneck or long-sleeved crew neck (especially for day). Keep the jewelry to a minimum and let the skirt make the statement.

I chose a bold pattern and patent leather purse to distinguish this from office attire. Finish the look with heels to lengthen the leg (particularly important with the cut of this skirt). And in case of cool fall weather, an edgy leather jacket would add the perfect contrast to this modern feminine ensemble!

I'm not a fan of prints so anyone who can pull it off and not look fat is fine by me!
