As a decorator, there is nothing I love more than a client who loves textiles - they are my favorite thing to shop for. Maggie here with a gorgeous Brazilian home bursting with exotic fabrics, patterns and color - with just enough traditional furniture to keep it from going haywire.
Take it all in my friends - curtains, throws, pillows, and even the lampshades. Ikat, suzani, and beautiful plush velvet make for a textile paradise. The couple's extensive art collection is squeezed onto every wall., but the tropical blue underneath is a breath of fresh air that eliminates any potential heaviness.
In the library, another velvet sofa hosts even more ikat pattern. A table is draped in a black and white suzani. Beautiful wood built-ins and side tables lend a traditional element and keep the room grounded. More art work adorns the walls.
The bedroom mixes more textiles with a ikat wallpaper for a delightfully busy effect. Placing large pieces of art on the walls minimizes the wallpaper's effect so it doesn't feel overpowering. Instead of brown bookshelves, wood beam detail on the ceilings and brown silk curtains anchor the room.
The look is easy to get by mixing exotic textiles and patterns with more traditional elements, like velvet upholstery and untreated wood tables.
Start with a suzani throw and oil painting, and hang this tan and ivory wallpaper. Add a fuchsia velvet sofa, and switch out a lampshade on any lamp for this ikat one. Paint a wall (or the doors!) in South Beach from Benjamin Moore, and hang these ikat curtains. Ground it all with an industrial style wood coffee table. And there you have it - a perfectly layered room!

Definitely the kind of home I love. Lots of vintage, fabrics, textures, every piece probably has a great story.
