APARTMENT #26: THE WALLS

Part of my goal this week while things are quiet around here is to get my act together on finishing up the apartment. I'd say I'm about 60% there right now. I've got quite a few pieces picked out that need to be ordered, and once those larger items are in it'll be time to get down to the details... like how I'll be arranging my walls.

My apartment has ample wall space for art, and I already have one large piece (this one from artaissance) that will likely go in the hall or bedroom, but I also have a collection of small art pieces and prints - some of which still need to be framed - and I've got to find just the right spot to put them all together...

To me, the key to this collective style is the framing. I prefer mine like the two spaces above: a collection of neutrals.

That way, even if the subjects are all different, or the colors or styles don't necessarily match, there is some sort of consistency. And, I prefer a larger variety of sizes... but not too many tiny frames. It starts to feel cluttered to me. I'll probably end up framing some of my smaller prints in larger mattes to take up a bit more space. Tomorrow I'll lay them all out on the floor to see what I have and what I still need to fill in spaces!

Do you have a gallery wall in your home? What are your tips for making it work well?

  2. I actually just got a gallery wall for Christmas and am so excited to hang it- we'll my boyfriend to hang it haha. My only word of advice is be super careful when you lay it all out on the floor. I accidentally stepped on one and cracked the frame. It was pretty heartbreaking.

  3. I love gallery walls - my tip is: Don't worry about making holes in the wall. I always re-arrange, and keep adding artwork here and there.

  4. Funny... hanging artwork/photos is my goal for the week too! Lately, I have been cutting out pieces of kraft paper to match the frame size and taping them on the wall. Once I am happy with the balance of it all... I start nailing. Good luck!

  8. I love the look of wall space that's filled with different sized antique-looking frames! But you're right, they can't be too small or else the room will look cluttered.

Good luck on your wall arranging!

  10. I recently made a post about gallery walls! I used to think of them as clutter but now I am loving them... I think there should always be at least one element in common (frame style or color, painting color combo, type of photography...) cant wait to see yours!

  13. Such a great post. I have so many small paintings and drawings just lying around with all my art supplies that NEED a place to go, or they will eventually get tossed.

Thanks for some inspiration :) I have a busy day ahead of me now haha
