INTERIORS TO INSPIRE: TIMELESS AND LAYERED

Maggie here from Maggie Rose Interiors with some home decor inspiration and how to get the look. The home we're touring today is full of saturated color, features a mix of time-worn antiques with ultra modern shapes, and loves a good patterned rug. Just the kind of space that will wear well over the years and update effortlessly with a switch here and there.

In the living room, the original Victorian fireplace and mossy green walls take center stage. But juxtaposed against them are bright pops of paprika and a very modern green coffee table. Back in the corner you can see a gorgeous antique - the black and red accent chair. A classic stripe on the rug keeps the room from feeling stuffy and makes it appear to be wider.

The colors in this room are my favorite - we get the rich navy in the walls and in the striped rug, and a mustard yellow is added to the paprika we saw before. The rustic style of the dresser balances so nicely with the modern lamp, and bright artwork is set against bright white mats to stand out from the dark walls.

In the office, another graphic rug livens up the floor while a bright green metal desk (reminiscent of the green coffee table) tempers the rustic console table and formal dining chairs. I love that the pops of paprika are still present, and we're still seeing cool lamps and lots of art.

Let's see if we can find some similar pieces:

Starting with a fun geometric pattern rug, we build up the look with an antique dresser and paprika hued chair (an antique chair recovered in this color would be gorgeous too!). This coffee table is a cross between the inspiration coffee table and desk, and mimics the color of the living room walls. Some colorful artwork gets white matting and framed. Then we splurge on a beautiful antique accent chair and yellow lamp (investment pieces!) and a beautiful navy pillow.

  1. I find the "layered" look absolutely amazing and intriguing. It gives depth and you can find little surprises or something you didn't notice the first time around long after being there. However when attempting to do it myself, it feels overwhelming and I don't even know where to begin! Thanks for breaking it down into a few key pieces. Makes it seem easier to tackle.

  5. These rooms are gorgeous! I love the layered patterns and styles, and especially that yellow striped rug! We have a similar Fabricut fabric on our site and I'd love to do some curtains or pillows in it!

  6. I keep trying to convince my hubs that painting some of the walls in our apartment a color other than white will add so much to our look...maybe if I show him that navy bedroom he will finally believe me!

  7. GREAT POST! Its not an easy task to create a room that looks like it took 60 years to create and one should be very cautious when attempting to. Mix what you like with what you like with what you like with what you like and you can never go wrong. The best aesthetic is the personal.

  8. Love the layered look! Something I struggle with in my home is too much empty space, because I'm afraid of getting "cluttered." This are some great examples of how to make a room look comfortable. I especially love the mix of rustic in some of the rooms, gorgeous!
