NEW YEARS, INTERRUPTED

As we all know, New Years Eve plans rarely turn out as planned. But they also rarely turn out better than what you had actually planned.

On Saturday afternoon as I was dashing around for some last minute goodies to set my Deco-inspired tabletop, I received an invite to a fabulous dinner and cocktail party at The Coterie Room, courtesy of Gilt City Seattle. For a moment, I actually considered declining (How would I get my tabletop done? My nails needed a manicure!) and then I realized it would be way more fun than staying in and said, yes yes yes! But not before snapping a few pics of what would have been a fabulous table...


For the table, I had planned on using the banner numbers at each place setting, wrapped around the napkins, and glittered up in their respective colors. While my actual dinner party would have been a girl's night, I wanted to set the table for the ladies and gents, so this setting above would have been for the boys (no New Years tiaras for them!), and this one for the girls...

I added my favorite feather dishes from Anthropologie for a little softness in this setting. (I hadn't even added the gold charger yet! Oops!)  The other china is a mix of patterns from Noritake; the black and white one is called Evening Glow and I love how  it has speckles of gold on the black! So festive. The more simple white geometric pattern is called Trieste and is one of my favorites.

I loved snapping these pics midway through planning because you can see how I think out a table... bringing all the elements that might work together onto the table and playing with them. I was in the process of deciding which candlesticks to go with and realizing I needed black or white tapers (hated the way those ivory ones looked).

Of course, I had already planned out this post ahead of time and had put together a little dream ensemble to go with the table..

I was so thrilled when I found that tablecloth fabric because it reminded me so much of this Milly dress! How perfect, right? And I was hoping to add some festive emerald touches to the table to mimic this outfit with bottles of champagne, satin green napkins and some green confetti ... next time! You better believe I'll be using this tabletop idea in the future!
