ROOM OF THE WEEK 10.13

I sort of get the feeling you could throw almost any old furniture in this room and it would still look good because oh my lord,  those walls and that ceiling!!

The contrast of modern geometric with über classic is what this space is all about! The ceilings vs. the walls. The chaise lounge vs. the cocktail table. It strikes a perfect mix to me - respecting the old architecture of the home while adding in elements that bring it up to date in a way that really works. And how about that yellow band of color around the whole space? A brave, bold choice, but I do think it lends a little playfulness to the room. If you look hard enough at the reflection in that mirrored screen, you can also see a brightly painted turquoise hutch. The owner obviously isn't afraid of color!

What do you think about this fun mix and match? Is it lacking anything for you? Would you have chosen a different color for the paint? Perhaps add another layer with a rug? Discuss!

wow, sorry, this totally isn't working for me! If there's a mix of styles I think there should at least be a common color palate, but there is nothing harmonious about this room. It's just a bunch of totally random stuff thrown into a pretty space. Maybe I'm old fashioned but I cannot for the life of me imagine how someone purposefully put this stuff together.

  3. i would have added brighter and bigger furniture myself, i need to see this though, as i'm in the process of redecorating a home that is very classical in structure, but i'm add lots of modern elements and really bright color!!!

  5. I like the walls and I like the ceiling, but seperately. It's too much and makes my eyes cross lol. Way too busy, but the elements are smashing!

  9. safe to say i think we all enjoy elements of this room, but maybe not all together?

anon - the only thing i'm really not liking is that table lamp - i think it would have been nicer to see a classic shape there. I think the pieces that are pulling it together are the use of geometric lines, similar finishes on the furniture (in what looks to be black) and the way that works with the graphite drapes. there is something about it that feels unfinished to me though...

  10. It's a bit to sterile for me. Love the walls and ceiling yes, but you definitely need soome textured layers...I'd added a few throws in punchy colors (I'm thinking hot pink or coral) and warm it up with a great area rug too.

  12. Turquoise and yellow provides a nice contrast. BTW is the ceiling having an engraved texture?? I have usually seen that only in public buildings and not in houses.

  18. It's funny because while this wouldn't be something I'd design I absolutely love it! I wish I had it in me to be a little more eccentric both in wardrobe and design style. I could live without the walls but love love love the ceiling! xo

  19. This room is gorgeous! I do agree that a rug is needed, it's a little bit too much white for me but I do love the touch of turquoise in the mirror! I also think a pink rug would be awesome!
