SCREENED IN

I've been playing with different layouts and furniture possibilities for my apartment (Are you ready for me to be done with it already? Yeah, me too.) and one thing I know I'm going to need for sure is a big screen in the corner...

Why? Because I'm a little bit crazy about hiding my clutter, and I'm a little bit too busy to be constantly organized, so I've decided that a screen is the best solution. When I have guests over, I certainly don't need them staring at my pile of receipts waiting to be filed, or my fabric sample explosion.

So, yes, behind the screen will be a desk. And a chair. And a lot of piles of things.

Now the question is... what kind of screen?

Do I go bold with prints or color all the way to the ceiling?

Or, there's always mirrors. Oh, I how I love the idea of a mirror! But I'm not sure I need that much reflection in my little space while I'm trying to watch TV.

Or, do I keep things simple and integrate them into the decor a little more and create a subtle, but architectural feel?

Have any of you integrated screens into your decor? Are they decorative, or functional? Or maybe a bit of both?

  2. I never had a screen, but I think they're very charming. You've picked some really good ones here. I agree about the mirrored ones. They're gorg but you should use it a big space or at least not w/ a TV too close. It can get anyone a bit confused. :-)

Let us know when you find the "ideal" one!

    Enjoy your day!

  3. Liking your idea of a screen, Cassie! I need something like that for the amount of paper work and press packs cluttering up my apartment from the last press season!

  5. They are all so beautiful! Top picks though...the turquoise screen (and that entire space)...OR the Ellen Pompeo screen. I too am a neat FREAK! I used a giant dresser to create addtl closet space behind it, which was a great space solution. And currently I have 2 gigantic doors that I hauled out of someone's trash & refinished, which I have been laboring over — like you — which fabric to upholster them in...it's been a year! Can't wait to see your finished room!

Think I would go for a full height screen, as your ceilings aren't super heigh covered in a fabric. ( you can then change fabric to change your look) Maybe put small wheels on the bottom, as screens can be very heavy to move about and they can fall if your not careful. x

I swear, living in a loft is impossible without a chic screen. That's why I have so many (not because I'm a compulsive screen shopper, I swear). I totally support you working your magic on some screenage.

I think a screen is a fab way to conceal the undesirable...like spanx for a room! Cover it in fabric or wall paper so the commitment to a pattern is minimal. Great idea!

  14. I love the blue fabric covered one with studs. I think they look the best when they feel apart of the house/apartment not just randomly standing around. While you may want to hide your junk, you don't want it to look like you're hiding junk.

  19. Good idea and nice images. I like the blue one because it looks like a door and it doesn't seem a real screen.

  23. If you haven't already chosen, go for the vintage one or something eastern. It stands out and can even be a conversation piece.
