Whenever I see blue and white florals, I instantly think of grandma's fine china. It's classic, but is it fresh? Can we make it modern and glamorous? I'm beginning to think it might be possible! With a heavy dose of white combined with clean lines to counteract the antiquated pattern, it could work. Would you try this trend?

love this post! my dad spent 11 years completing our family china set for my wedding gift, and it couldn't have meant more to me. i love the pieces alone, but also like to use our modern white daily china in combo for a fresh take. it's the most perfect marriage of sophistication + style!
ReplyDeleteLove it! I would definitely try it, especially for summer. I was actually looking for a blue and white china bowl as an accent for my coral dining room.
ReplyDeleteWell I think it's grandma glamour :) Something to romantically retro about blue and white...I say own it, I love it!

Granmour?
ReplyDeleteThe chaise is a little too granny for me but I love the idea of china-inspired wallpaper countered by sleek white lines! You've done it again :) Thank you for four years of inspiration! xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteI'm constantly amazed by the stylish use of "granny" prints these days - not sure I am hip enough to pull them off. I do love blue and white, though, and I found a gorgeous large-scale blue and white floral at Calico Corners that has a very fresh look. I'm reupholstering a Louis XV chair in it - not quite done - but almost there and blogged about it today (www.12devonshire.blogspot.com).
ReplyDeleteGreat trend spotting! Love the classic look of blue-and-white patterns, it's always a classic. We wrote about decorating with blue-and-white dishes on ShelterPop back in Feb...a few interesting ideas: http://www.shelterpop.com/2011/02/18/decorating-with-blue-and-white/
ReplyDeletePersonally, I have always adored this color combo...but I were to do it in my home, I'd definitely pair it with pops of brights, like yellow or even fuchsia or kelly green! It's also gorgeous paired with blue and white stripes or blue and white graphics. I love making this pattern eclectic and modern!

I think it's one of those classic combos that can't be beat. My personal take is simple patterns in blue and white, to let the beauty of the colors shine through. (stripes, or just pairing white things on a cobalt or Klein blue background)
ReplyDeleteLove this trend! I agree - need clean lines and alot of white to balance it! great post!
