COCKTAILS AT SIX: A WARMING HOT TODDY

I love the rays of sunshine peeking out a little more each day, but...

In reality it is still bitter cold outside and it can be so hard to warm up in the evenings. Worse yet, I can just feel that ‘I’m coming down with something’ fatigue about to rear it’s ugly head. What to do? I recommend building up that fire, drawing a hot bubble bath - and of course mix up a teakettle of hot toddies. You’ll feel toasty again in no time.

Hot Toddy

1 oz brandy
1 tsp honey
1/4 lemon
1 tea bag
1 cup hot water

Coat the bottom of a mug with honey. Add the brandy and the fresh juice of 1/4 lemon. Heat water and steep the tea bag to your liking. Pour the tea into the glass and stir. Garnish with a cinnamon stick + lemon slice. Serves 1.

  4. Thanks for the recipe for hot toddy.
In Ireland we make it just like you said but without the tea bag and we stud the lemon with cloves. It certainly helps to ward off colds

  5. mmm. I usually skip the tea bag and add more honey, a cinnamon stick, and some freshly grated nutmeg. So good on a drizzly evening.

  13. Yum, that looks amazing! I have a completely different Hot Toddy recipe that I use over the holidays. Much less healthy than yours, but so delicious! It involves melting in a sauce pan, a stick of butter, nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, brown sugar & perhaps a few other things... Then mix it up & put it in a covered storage container in the fridge, Scoop one and a half tablespoons of the mixture into a mug & add 3/4 c boiling water. Top it off with rum (just regular clear rum). Then of course, I add whipped cream and a cinnamon stick! It really truly, "warms" the soul!

  22. I'm originally from Newfoundland, a very chilly island off the East coast of Canada, and we have a hot toddy recipe that is a little different!
It's one ounce (or two) of Irish whiskey (I prefer Jamesons), a slice/squeeze of fresh lemon, a tsp of brown sugar and boiling water.
Perfect blend of boozy, citrus and sweet and it will cure whatever ails you.
