Like French Toast! Often as the sun is just rising, I’m the only one up & about in the house - puttering around the kitchen + espresso maker. I savor the quiet moments to myself, throwing in a bit of this, a bit of that into the large, white mixing bowl. Before you know it, the smell of something baking is slowly waking the rest of the household. So be sure to take your time, throw in a dash of Amaretto and warm up to the lovely rest of your day.
Amaretto-baked French Toast
3 eggs
1 cup milk
3 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons amaretto
1 loaf brioche bread, cut into 1/2 inch cubes
1 tablespoon butter (for greasing your baking dish)
1/2 cup pecans
maple syrup for serving
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a large bowl, beat eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla & amaretto. Add brioche cubes and let mixture soak for 5 minutes. Spoon into a 9” x 12” well greased baking dish; sprinkle with pecans. Bake for about 15 to 20 minutes, or until golden. Pour maple syrup over & serve (because surely they will all be awake & waiting!).

Yum! Perfect for Brunch the day after Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds fantastic! My mom makes a similar version, but with large thick slices rather than cubes. We may have to make this for Thanksgiving. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThis looks so delicious. I am definitely trying it.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, I'm totally making this thanksgiving morning!
ReplyDeleteWill be trying these as I am a French Toast junkie.
ReplyDeleteHave a great Sunday.

Sounds delicious. French Toast is a great starting point for so many great flavors -- we came up with curried FT a few weeks ago-just add bit of your favorite curry powder to the batter. I know, it sounds questionable, but is terrific--especially with a side of bacon or crispy prosciutto!
ReplyDeleteI've never had baked french toast! But it sounds easy and that amaretto is so perfect for that close to christmas spirit. Yum!
ReplyDeleteThis looks and sounds amazing! My breakfast burrito wasn't quite that appealing.
ReplyDeleteOMG - I love this post and I love brunch! Thank you for the recipe - I have made pancakes with syrup and apples with brandy and they were fabulous also! I love new recipes!
ReplyDeleteMmm this sounds lovely! Although I'm not usually a fan of amaretto. The idea of it with thick toast might change my mind though... xxx

Ah, I've always wished I could be that person that putters around in the morning, enjoys the soft light of the rising sun and the stillness that the morning brings.
ReplyDeleteBut alas, I am not that one bit. Every morning I put off actually waking up until the very last minute, and I'm grumpy and sleepy and hungry and terrible.
For amaretto french toast though, I may give this morning thing a shot.
