ON THE SIDE

Lately I've been doing a lot of hunting for side tables, stools and ottomans for clients as they seem to be the perfect little accents for adding a touch of whatever it is the room may be lacking. Need a pop of color?  Perhaps a layer of texture? The side piece is a worthy contender for filling those voids.

Personally, I'm in the market for two types of side pieces. *1. A piece to hold stacks of magazines and the occasional cup of coffee or wine glass. *2. A piece to provide easy additional seating without taking up too much room.

The pieces above are my top contenders... well, all except the first glamourista (budget, people, budget!), but isn't she pretty? I'm leaning toward a pair of x-benches as they are the most classic and versatile of the bunch, but I love the way the jute cube and the white garden stool matchup together too!

And then there's this guy...

I have always loved the way these antique pieces look in a room, so when I saw that Urban Outfitters was carrying their own (budget friendly!) version, I was very tempted to place an order! A few coats of gold paint and - if I'm lucky - adding a mirrored top, and I'd be all set.

What do you think, dear readers? Have you seen any side tables or small stools lately that you think I should add to my options?

That Urban Outfitters table is pretty great on its own, and would look incredible after a few coats of metallic paint. Although I'm partial to the x-benches. They'll continue to look great in any space!

Oh I would really like to see a how that DIY project ends up. The table is adorable, but sadly for me, no urban outfiters in Portugal yet.
In my apartment I have 2 small 4-legged stools that were used to chop wood. They work as little side tables for cups and glasses and for seeting when we have a lot of visitors.
But I would really like to see how that DIY project ends up. The table is adorable, but sadly for me, no urban outfiters in Portugal yet.

Nice! I actually found some fantastic Gold Log side tables at Future Perfect the other day. Since they were 300$ each I decided to make them myself. Two logs, sanding, priming and I picked a silver colored spray for the cover and it looks pretty cool:)

Have a lovely evening...:)

Love the table from Urban...I had to refrain from purchasing it earlier this year...but seeing it again makes me want to run out and grab it while I can. Love diy projects and this one would be quick and easy.

Absolutely! I am addicted to fabulous side tables...here's a table I purchased that was a bargain and is simply wonderful: http://apothecaryjar.blogspot.com/2010/05/top-table.html

I am NOW tempted, of course, to check out that Urban Outfitters piece as well. Thanks!

I have that little table! I've been very pleased with it- it doesn't have the detail of the gold (expensive) version, but it's awfully classy looking for such a good deal!

I love the glamour option! Food for though---I've ordered furniture from UO and have not always been pleased. Basically, you get what you pay for. But this could be one of those hidden treasures...interested to find out!!

I love the sample side tables you pulled. Great lines, texture and scale. They are all fantastic! After you paint the body brass it could also be fun to paint the top a contrast pop color! Easy and fun :)

Mm, I love the organic texture little side table - it looks like fun to play with (is that a weird reason to choose a side table?)! And go for the DIY project too, that could turn out really cute!

Target has a great resin type side table that is sort of fauxbois looking, not sure i spelled it correctly... wood looking with tree limb legs, around 90.00.

Design Blahg said...

Oh yes jute cube...you will be mine.

Also, I got those exact tables at Target a couple of years ago...people always assume that they are an antique.

Beautiful pieces you have chosen, and I especially love your idea of reworking the one from Urban Outfitters. Very creative! Great idea to use sidetables when possible as they help "relax" a space and make it more inviting.
